Gurmukh Brahm Brahmgeaanee Sant Baabaa Shaam Sengh Saaheb Jee Sayvaapanthee Jee’s priceless invaluable Anmret words:- Teachers do not make children perfect their Muhaarnee. This is why only a rare few know the way of reading the vowels of Gurbaannee clearly and correctly.

For example, they are pronouncing a kannaa as a muktaa, and reading aakaar as akaar, saalaahee saalaah as salaahee salaah, and paataalaa paataal as pataalaa pataal. In this way, they read a dulaan as a laan: karnai as karnay, aakheeai as aakhee-ay, {and read kanaurraa as horraa} muhau as muho. In the same way, only a rare few read both hahay: they read kahahe as kahai, rahahe as rahai, sohahe as sohai. Then they read jaakou as jaako and daeaalaa as deaalaa.

Thus, children are not taught Muhaarnee to perfection. If Muhaarnee is perfected, only then can they read paatth correctly. However, amongst teachers, only a few rare ones have perfected Muhaarnee themselves, so how would they correct someone else’s. Teachers rush teaching, they quickly get children to read from pothee, and when that has not even been perfected, they have them sit on Mahaaraaj taabeaa to read paatth. Instead this is actually very disrespectful; due to not knowing the correct pronunciation of the vowels, paatth is read incorrectly.” (pothee Sant Gaathaa pg 14)
