੨੩. ਧੰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਨਰਬਦਾ ਨਦੀ ਕਿਨਾਰੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਮੇਤ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕੀਤੀ,“ਹੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ! ਸਹਸਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ?” ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ,“ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਓ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਜੀ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਲਿੱਪੀ ’ਚ ਹੀ ਪੜਿੑਆ ਕਰੋ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਹੰਸ ਬੋਲੀ ਹੈ, ਪੜੑਨ ਨਾਲ ਅਰਥ ਸੌਖਾ ਭਾਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੇਸਮਝ ਭੀ ਸਮਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਰੑੇ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਖੇ, ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ, ਵਿਆਕਰਣ ਦੇ ਖਟ ਅੰਗ ਪੜੑੇ, ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਔਂਦੀ, ਕੇਵਲ ਅਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੇਗਾ, ਉਹ ਭੀ ਜੇ ਲਿਆਕਤ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਇਹ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੋਲੀ ਖੂਹ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਵਰਖਾ ਦੇ ਜਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ।

23. Once dhaⁿn S_ree Guroo Gobeⁿd Seⁿgh Saaheb Jee Mahaaraaj were seated on the banks of the Narmada River in complete bliss. The Sekhs made a request, “O true Guroo Saaheb Jee! Is Sahask_retee better or Gurmukhee?” the complete, Guroo Jee gave a command, “O beloved Gursekhs! You should always read S_ree Gurbaannee Jee in Gurmukhee, Gurmukhee is the swan of all languages. By reading it, the meanings of the sabads are easily understood by the reader, even the ignorant can understand. If someone spends twelve years in Kaaⁿshee learning Sansk_ret and the six parts of grammar, they still might not be able to make others understand; they can only understand themselves, and that too if they are capable. The Sansk_ret language is like the water of a well. The Paⁿjaabee language in Gurmukhee letters is as comforting as the water of the rain, that is beneficial to all beings.

ਜੇ ਸਹਸਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਪੜੑਨ ’ਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਫ਼ਾਇਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਪੂਜਨੀਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕਦੇਵ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਹੀ ਨ ਕਰਦੇ, ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ’ਚ, ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਸ਼ੁੱਭ ਗੁਣ ਫ਼ੁਰਮਾਏ ਹਨ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ’ਚ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪੜੑਨੀ ਲਿਖਣੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਨੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁੱਚਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਜੁੱਗ ਤ੍ਰੇਤਾ ਦੁਆਪੁਰ ’ਚ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਸਹਸਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਪੜੑਨ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਖੁਲੑਦਾ। ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖੁ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ’ਚ, ਪਰਮਪੂਜਨੀਕ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਸ਼ੋਭਤ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪੜੑ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਝਣ ਲੱਗੇ। ਵੇਦਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੜੑਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਈਰਖਾ ਫੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਸ਼ੂਦ੍ਰੀ ਲਿੱਪੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀਓਂ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਜੀ ਪੜੑਨ ਸੁਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਧਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੜੑਨੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੈਰਾਗ ਘਟਦਾ ਹੈ।”

If studying Sahask_retee was completely beneficial, then Sateguroo S_ree Guroo Naanakdayv Saaheb Jee would not have created Gurmukhee. The perfect Guroo Jee speaks about loving devotion and countless noble virtues in Gurbaannee Jee. O Sekhs, therefore, you must read, write, and contemplate on Gurbaannee Jee in Gurmukhee letters, this is the true, pure, high religion for the prosperity of the whole world. In the previous ages of Satyug, Traytaa and Duaapur, Gurmukhee was not available and learning the Sahask_ritee language did not reveal the secret of B_raham. Obeying the command of Akaalpurakh Jee, divine S_ree Guroo Naanakdayv Saaheb Jee Neraⁿkaaree gave glory to Parampoojneek true Gurbaannee Jee in the Gurmukhee letters, which allowed everyone to start reading and listening to the meanings of S_ree Gurbaannee Jee. The readers of Vaydaas and Shaast_rs are jealous and believe Gurmukhee is for the low-castes. O beloved Gursekhs! By reading and listening to the nectar-filled, true Gurbaannee Jee of Sateguroo S_ree Guroo G_raⁿth Saaheb Jee, love for God increases and so does renunciation from the world; Vaaheguroo Jee are revealed. On the contrary, reading the Shaasht_ras decreases love for God and the renunciation of the world.”
